Robby really likes school. He really likes video games. He really likes riding his bike and mathematics. He really likes movies. He even really likes broccoli, asparagus, salad, and salsa. But there are a few things he really doesn't like. One of those is dancing and another is singing. So of course I knew it was going to be rough when I found out the current PE unit was "dance". Imagine my surprise when I get notified by Mrs. Ballou that Robby wouldn't participate at all in PE that day {insert sarcasm eye roll}. I debated what to do that would drill in him the importance of trying out things you don't naturally enjoy. In the end I decided to go the old school route. Since he also doesn't enjoy writing, I figured writing out "I will participate in PE with a smile" five times on a paper would help remind him of this.
You would think I was torturing this poor child by shoving bamboo sticks under his fingernails by the way he carried on. It was pure torture to get this child to do this task. Afterwards he had plenty of smiles when he finally finished. I think that our talk at least partially sank in because he has participated much better since then and was able to finish the dance unit successfully. Thank heavens dance is over now and they have moved on to Gymnastics. Woo hoo!!
